Alja

ALJA
Official website of the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas.
Americo-Liberians Americo-Liberians are/were the relatively wealthy elite of Liberia. They are descended from former slaves, freed blacks who immigrated in the 1800s to Liberia from America. Some 13,000 were settled in Liberia between 1817 and 1867 by the American Colonization Society. They adopted Christianity and lived on the coast. They based their society on U.S. culture and political organization. Governing through the True Whig party, Americo-Liberians controlled the country from its foundation in 1847 until the coup of Samuel Doe in 1980. Under their rule the economy of Liberia rapidly developed, but their power rested largely on the repression and exploitation of the indigenous African majority.
THE ANALYST

The Analyst
The Analyst believes that the Press must help to identify the way forward and monitor the unfolding progress. The Analyst believes this prime objective can be institutionalized and dispensed. In pursuance of these objectives, The Analyst ascribes to the following public service role to itself:
Archbishop Michael K. Francis

Archbishop Michael K. Francis Oppugns
Religious leader/Politician. Archbishop Michael K. Francis, is a respected opposition figure. The Monrovia diocese provides many of the social services the government has ignored, including the country's only respected school system. Francis, an irrepressibly jovial man, first championed the idea of sending international troops to stabilize Liberia after 14 years of civil war.
