Airports: 36

Air Transport:
There are two airports near Monrovia, the larger Roberts International Airport is about 38 miles outside Monrovia. It used to be served by many international airlines. James Spriggs Payne Airfield is within city limits. Air Ivoire, Ghana Airways and Wesua Airlines fly regulary from Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and Freetown (Sierra Leone).

Tourist Information

The National Cultural Center in Kendeja (10 miles from Monrovia) is the home of the National Cultural Troupe, offering traditional music, dancing and dramas (by prior arrangement), carving and weaving and memorabilia items. In the center and at Kendeja Beach (in Grand Cape Mount County) best craft bargains from the local wood carvers can be achieved.

INVESTMENT INCENTIVES
PRIORITY SECTORS THAT QUALIFY

According to government guidelines, incentives will be granted to investments in the following areas:

  1. Processing and manufacturing sectors (either finished or semi-finished goods).

  2. Agriculture, forestry, fishing and animal husbandry.

  3. Mining and quarrying.

  4. Building and construction.

  5. Transport/ground support for investment in sea or air transport to remote areas of Liberia.

  6. The services sector

  7. Trade and catering serving the tourism industry.

    The degree and period of incentives shall depend on such factors as location, use of indigenous raw materials, type of economic activity, the level of Liberian participation etc.

GENERAL INVESTMENT INCENTIVES

Enterprises qualifying for investment incentives as defined above shall be entitled to:

ADDITIONAL INCENTIVES

Enterprises having Investment Incentives Contracts (IICs) will also receive one or more of the following additional benefits:

  1. Preferential rate for lease of available land for plant site in the Industrial Park (or Free Zone).

  2. Assistance in obtaining land selected by the investor on a long-term lease. This benefit applies to land for the purposes of industrial, agricultural and real estate development.

  3. Support in securing loans and/or contributions of equity capital by pertinent agencies of the government of Liberia, Liberian enterpreneurs and/or enterprises.

  4. Credit guarantees.

  5. Government participation by putting up a guaranty for its equity or by cash contribution, or through other acceptable arrangements.

  6. Reasonable market protection in the form of restriction on import of identical products.

Other famous dishes are: Fufu or Foo-Foo (with cassava/tapioca and Palava Sauce) and Country Chop. Pig's Feet, Cabbage, Okra, and Sweet Potato belong to a Liberian meal. Liberian made coffee, great palm wines and Club Beer are preferred beverages. Before food is served, plates and glasses are turned upside down.
